The Basics of a Shinigami

All shinigami must stay in the Soul Society unless there Captain or The Head of the Soul Society gives you permission to leave. Once you leave the Soul Society into the Ninja world all your powers are reduced by half to keep it fair. The only way you can leave the Soul Society is with your Captains permission or with The Head of the Soul Society's permission.

Here is how the Rank System in the Soul Society works:

Basic Shinigami-This is a person that has just entered the Soul Society. Even if you enter the Soul Society as a Kage, in the Soul Society your powers are that of a Basic Shinigami. You have to raise these powers by training with your Captain.

Lieutenant Shinigami-These are people that have come before the Head of the Soul Society after beeing referd to by there Captain. You can only become a Lieutenant after you have shown the Head of the Soul Society your powers and you must have mastered your Shikai already. There are very rare cases that the Head of the Soul Society will allow a Captain say that a Shinigami may become there Lieutenant.

Captain Shinigami-These are the most skill Shinigami in the Soul Society. Captain Shinigami have masted both Shikai and Bankai and have also mastered Flash Step. At any given time there are 13 Captains. There are only two ways that a Lieutenant Shinigami may become a Captain. 1) Is if the Lieutenant challenges the Captain and defeats him/her in a fair fight. 2) The Head of the Soul Society finds that the current Captain is not fit to be Captain anymore and is demoted.

Ryoka Shinigami-They are the Shinigami that have left the Soul Society without permission and have become outcasts. They are whatever shinigami rank they left as. Same goes with ninja world rank. If Ryoka Shinigami are spotted in the Soul Society they are to be killed on site. If you are caught helping a Ryoka you will become one yourself and you will have the same fate.

How to gain Shikai and Bankai:

Shikai-Shikai is gained by a Basic Shinigami fighting there Captain and there Captain thinks they are ready for it. The only way that can be changed is if the Head of the Soul Society doesn't find this person fit for Shikai yet, but the Head of the Soul Society must have a very good reason for him/her not to get Shikai.

Bankai-Bankai is gained by a Leuitenant Shinigami fighting there Captain and there Captain and also the Head of the Soul Society thinks this Shinigami is ready. It has to be a mutual agreement. If one doesn't find that person fit then that person can not gain Bankai.

The ninja version of the ranks in the Soul Society:

Seeing as all the powers of a Shinigami are cut in half when they enter the ninja world they get special ranks.

Genin-If you have died as a genin you will start out as a Basic Shinigami. You can earn your way up through the Shinigami Ranks.

Chuunin-(Ignore this if you were Chuunin when you died)If you died as a Genin in the ninja world and got up from Basic Shinigami to Lieutenant Shinigami in the Soul Society. You would be at the rank of Chuunin in the ninja world.

Jounin-(Ignore this if you were Jounin when you died)If you died as a Genin or Chuunin and got up from Basic Shinigami to Lieutenant Shinigami then to Captain Shinigami in the Soul Society. You would be at the rank of Jounin in the ninja world.

(Sorry to say but if you died as a Kage in the ninja world you could gain up Shinigami ranks but they wouldn't help you in the ninja world xDD)

Also this is very important. Shinigami are unable to learn Jutsu's. They may only learn jutsu's if its part of there bloodline. If a Shinigami is found to have learned a Jutsu that wasn't part of there bloodline after they have become a Shinigami they will have a trial to see what punishment they deserve, if none can be chose they will face execution. (Yes, if it comes down to it and you face execution you can flee to the ninja world, but in the Soul Society you would have a bounty on your head.)
